Abandonware Games / simcity - Simcity .

The "Unlimited" at the end of the title is a subtle way of telling us that this game contains all that we loved about 's release of SimCity , while packing it full of goodies to reinvigorate the series until the release of SimCity With new artistic touches two new building sets and new world landmarks , new challenges four new disasters as well as added scenarios , and new expandability a building creation tool and a scenario creator there is even more to love.

If you're familiar with SimCity , or SC , or even the original for that matter, you should have a basic understanding of how gameplay in SC3KU my goodness, that's a long acronym works. As the mayor of your city, you zone areas, install utilities, build roads, and construct building to protect your citizens or at least bring in profit. Little SimCitizens will start flocking to your city as long as you make your domain livable. Adding spice, four new disasters are included along with the original five, to frustrate the efforts of your well-planned city.

As with most Maxis games, SimCity contains no real predefined goals, which can completely stress-out certain goal-oriented people. SC3KU helps calm their psychosis, by providing 13 scenarios that can actually be completed.

These range from protecting your city from a locust horde to reuniting East and West Berlin. And, if you've beaten all those, you can download or create your own scenarios to keep you up all night long. I can't honestly say that the graphics in SC3KU are stupendous, but they do get the job done.

Little people walking, riding bicycles and driving cars populate your city, making it seem lively and interesting. The skyscrapers are impressive and normally everything is detailed enough to differentiate one building from another.

This upgraded version includes two new building sets one Asian and one European, beside the standard American style that help extend the graphic palate. You can also use the Building Architect Plus tool that comes with the game to design your own buildings to use and share over the Internet. Obviously, it isn't easy to create well-designed, attractive buildings, but you needn't fret because, besides the many user-created buildings on the Internet, there are 95 world landmarks you can sprinkle into your landscape to add civic color.

The music tracks are surprisingly well done. They remain in the background while still adding a little toe-tapping to the game. The sound effects aren't very memorable; simply utilitarian in representing the buildings you've created. If you have ever played any SimCity game, you most likely know how addictive they can be.

After stumbling to bed early in the morning, I can attest to the fact that this one carries on the tradition with style and substance. The most notable change is the addition of the concept of waste management. In SimCity , garbage begins to accumulate when the city grows to a medium size, and must be disposed of at the expense of the city.

Farms and agricultural structures are also introduced, appearing on large light industrial zones in a city with low land value and little pollution.

A new zoning density was also added, totaling three densities, compared to SimCity 's two. In addition to their limited life span, power plants and other utility buildings were also made vulnerable to decreasing maximum output due to age.

All power plants have a life span, and additionally, the water facilities now have a life span as well. Although the concept of neighbor cities was introduced in SimCity , it was greatly expanded upon in SimCity New for players is interaction with neighbouring cities, negotiating rudimentary business deals with other mayors, such as the sale or purchase of water, electricity or waste management services.

These generate a monthly charge which is either added to or deducted from the player's treasury, in accordance with the deal. Canceling a neighbor deal would incur a penalty, unless the deal was cancelled when the other city wished to renegotiate. Although not strictly a city management aspect, SimCity simulates the effect of land value on construction much more realistically than in SimCity In SimCity , land value creates very distinct neighborhoods which tend to contain narrow income bands, creating well-defined slums, middle class areas, and wealthy areas.

Land value is also determined by the city center effect where buildings that are at the city center have higher land values and those buildings on the borders have lower land values. Business deals were another new concept to SimCity ; by allowing certain structures, such as a maximum security prison, to be built within the city, the player can receive a substantial amount of funds from them.

Business deal structures, however, tend to have negative effects on the city, such as reduced land value. There are several changes to the graphical interface in SimCity Although the game retains the pseudo-isometric dimetric perspective of its predecessor, the actual landscape became more complex and colorful.

In SimCity and SimCity , the playable landscape is mostly brown, while in SimCity , the playable landscape is a more realistic green color, along with other colors that progressively change by height, from beige beach sand to green to brown bare ground to white snow. In SimCity , land could either be flat or sloped, and all slopes were of the same steepness. In SimCity , there are five distinct steepness of slope, creating more varied landscapes.

There are different types of trees which can appear on the playable map, ranging from small, Deciduous trees to towering Redwoods.

Re-create cities from around the globe with hundreds of new buildings. Reunify East and West Berlin in one of 13 scenarios. Spruce up your city with over 95 world landmarks. Protect your citizens from four new disasters. Select hundreds of buildings from SimCity and all-new Asian and European buildings. Create unique masterpieces for your metropolis with the Building Architect Plus tool. Inflict 9 disasters-including toxic clouds, plague of locusts, space junk, and a whirlpool.

Play 13 challenging scenarios or make your own with the SimCity Scenario Creator.
